2022 Road to CFB Travel Schedule: The Ultimate College Football Road Trip

Advertisements

After an offseason of trying to craft the ultimate college football road trip, I’m excited to share my 2022 travel schedule. Of course, all games are fluid and this will be one of many editions of the schedule that may play out this year.

Will you be at any of these games? Shoot me a message on Instagram, Twitter, or email me here to let me know. I’m always open to suggestions and love to meet new friends out on the road!

College Football Road Trip: September

College football’s opening month is looking like a big one. As is tradition now, I’m doing a three-part trip Labor Day weekend that’s kicking off at the Backyard Brawl on Sept. 1. Pitt and West Virginia last played in 2011, but have a long and storied history. There’s no love lost between these two teams and the excitement surrounding the revitalization of this rivalry is through the roof.

Back in 2018, Old Dominion notably upset Virginia Tech at home– the last time these two teams played in Norfolk. The Hokies are under new direction, with this game marking their first under new head coach Brent Prye. ODU closed out the 2021 regular season with six straight wins and a bowl berth.

The weekend wraps up in Greenville, North Carolina, as Heisman hopeful Devin Leary visits East Carolina. This in-state, regional rivalry doesn’t get played often, but both teams will be well-represented.

I also have my first ever trip to Camp Randall Stadium lined up with my good friend College Football Tour (a Wisconsin alum and superfan). September wraps up with the 100th anniversary of homecoming at Bowling Green and a sellout in Cincinnati.

Road to CFB October Schedule

Non-CFB travel takes up my first weekend of October and Week 6 presents the biggest week of games of the season, so I’ll be sitting those out. However, I’m right back on the road on Oct. 13 where defending-Big 12 champion Baylor faces West Virginia in Morgantown. Of all the nation’s traditions, the singing of Country Roads is one of my most anticipated.

I turn it north to revisit Michigan State (my second-ever visited stadium) as they host Wisconsin on Oct. 15.

Oct. 22 is a hugely anticipated week as I’m joined by College Football Tour in State College for Penn State’s annual whiteout. Though it didn’t land on their traditional Whiteout vs. Ohio State, this is going to be an electric environment anyway against Minnesota.

October closes out with a local game in Akron.

Wrapping Up The Regular Season

I’ll be at the Midweek MACtion opener on a Tuesday night in Kent. The Golden Flashes host Ball State on a Tuesday night. The last time I was at Dix Stadium, I was recruiting for Bowling Green. It was on Halloween and it was 28º at kickoff; the Falcons won that game 44-16.

Nov. 5 is an open date, but one I may keep open with a pair of travel weekends upcoming. On the way to Iowa, I’m swinging through Kalamazoo to see Western Michigan host Northern Illinois– my pick to win the MAC. After WMU, it’s onto Iowa City for my first game at Kinnick Stadium. The game sold out in a matter of hours this summer!

The regular season wraps up with the Battle of i-75 in Toledo on a Wednesday and with my first game at Notre Dame on Nov. 19. The Fighting Irish are hosting Boston College in Week 12.

Finally, I traditionally sit out rivalry week for Ohio State-Michigan; this year is no different. While I hope to be at the game, ticket prices soared to over $300 for nosebleeds at opening and aren’t any cheaper in the aftermarket.
