Spartan Stadium (Michigan State)

Michigan State announced the FOR SPARTA initiative, a $1 billion investment in student athlete facilities. The renovation goes beyond just Spartan Stadium, which is expected to receive a full facelift, but also includes its basketball, field house, and other facilities. A few improvements were completed ahead of 2025, including a new video board and improvements to some floors of the home-side tower.

At the time of announcement, there was not a timeline provided.

Oklahoma Memorial Stadium (Oklahoma)

The University of Oklahoma announced a controversial renovation plan to Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in November 2025. The plan would revamp one of major college football’s most outdated press boxes–an aspect fans almost unanimously agree needs work–but also includes stripping thousands of regular seats for luxury options. Oklahoma follows a growing trend for increased luxury seating options installed in stadiums.

The Palace Project will begin after the 2027 season and is expected to be completed by the 2029 season. OU estimates the renovation will cost $450M. It only includes work done to the west home stands.

It also hinted at a future plan to renovate the home stands with no timetable announced.

Milan Puskar Stadium (West Virginia)

West Virginia University’s board of Governors reportedly approved a $150M renovation to Milan Puskar Stadium in November, 2025. The renovation primarily centers around a new stadium tower. Before this reno, WVU’s press box was among the more outdated in high-level college football. This renovation seeks to rectify it.

The upgrade could reduce Milan Puskar Stadium by 1,000-2,000 seats, according to reports.

According to Athletic Director Wren Baker, the project aims to be finished for the 2028 football season, with construction beginning after the 2026 season.

Rice Stadium (Rice)

Rice University announced a $120M facilities upgrade campuswide with a central focus around Rice Stadium. The historic football stadium currently sits 47,000, but is seated for 60,000 and has hosted major historical events like Super Bowl VIII and multiple presidential speeches. The stadium upgrade essentially rebuilds Rice Stadium with little of the original kept.

The new capacity is reported to be 30,000 and focus on premium seating options, a growing trend in college football. Other renovations include a 360º concourse, new restroom and concession facilities, and a new kitchen.

Campus gateway is also in the works to tie Rice’s beautiful campus to the stadium. The project is expected to go “through 2028.”

Bobcat Stadium (Montana State)

Montana State revised plans for a major athletic facilities overhaul in late October, 2025. The revision included renderings of Bobcat Stadium, which appears set to undergo a serious facelift. The project was described as, “a comprehensive Bobcat Stadium expansion including increased seating capacity to meet today’s demands and improved fan amenities to elevate fan experience and the overall functionality of the stadium and surrounding footprint.”

It comes as a part of a 20-year plan to upgrade all of Montana State’s facilities and is a continuation of the master plan unveiled back in 2017. So far, MSU opened two facilities, including an indoor one for football that cost $25M, in 2021.

There is no cost or timeline for the stadium renovation just yet.

Williams Brice Stadium (South Carolina)

South Carolina’s Williams Brice Stadium is undergoing a large renovation project to improve its game day experience. The $350M project was approved in February 2025 and the largest portion of the project was approved in May 2025. Among the many updates include additional premium seating areas, a facelift to the locker room, a brand-new concourse (including the removal of some of the notable spiral ramps), and an improvement to the student section, among others.

Premium seating seems to be an exceptional focus in this upgrade. The full press release can be found here.

Elliott T. Bowers Stadium (Sam Houston State)

Just two years into its FBS membership, Sam Houston State is upgrading its home facility, Elliott T. Bowers Stadium. Most notably, the home press box is being completely redone (pictured above). Construction began after the 2024 football season. In addition to the press box, Bowers Stadium gets new luxury seating, balconies, restrooms, and concession stands. In total, the project costs about $60M.

The revamped stadium in Huntsville, Texas, debuts for the 2026 season.

Rose Bowl Stadium (UCLA)

Rose Bowl Stadium is receiving an $80M renovation in anticipation of the 2028 Olympics. Among the upgrades includes: a new sound system, field-level club seats, improvement to cell service, and a new student congregation area. It appears the entrance tunnel will also receive a facelift, mimicking nearby NFL venues. The iconic Rose Bowl sign was also refurbished ahead of the 2024 season.

Luxury seats and the revamped standing section take priority, estimated to be completed by 2026. A brand new video board–among the country’s largest (pictured above)–comes in Phase II, expected to be installed by the 2028 football season but after the Olympic games.

According to several press releases, the integrity of the 102-year-old iconic venue is of top priority.

Camping World Stadium (Bowls)

Camping World Stadium, set in Orlando and used majorly to host bowl games, is receiving a $400M renovation, according to WESH, Orlando’s local NBC affiliate. The stadium could host the Jacksonville Jaguars during their 2027 hiatus from TIAA Bank Stadium, which is undergoing a billion-dollar renovation that year.

The main focus for this renovation, besides a new outer shell? Upper deck seating. Camping World Stadium (built in 1936 and majorly renovated in 2014) aims to host regional concerts and other large events with the upgrade. The lower bowl will also be closed in and bench seats removed.

Orange County approved the $400M project in mid-November, 2024.

Beaver Stadium (Penn State)

Penn State approved a $700M renovation to Beaver Stadium in May 2024. The three-phase project is expected to be completed a phase at a time for the next three seasons. The total renovation is expected to be completed by the 2027 season.

Included in the project are a 21,000-square-foot welcome center (pictured), expanded luxury seat options, widened concourses, improved wifi and cell connectivity, better video boards, and a winterized field. The winterization was announced long before the renovation project was completed in time for Penn State to host its first College Football Playoff game in 2024.

Penn State long threatened to build a new stadium, but the $700M renovation is likely a more affordable option than building a new premier stadium. There’s no word yet on how the renovations will affect Beaver Stadium’s 106K capacity – currently the second-largest stadium in the country.

Memorial Stadium (Missouri)

The University of Missouri revealed renderings for a $250M upgrade to Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium in April, 2024. That followed an announcement two months prior of the largest athletics gift in school history ($62M donation). The project is set to be completed in time for the 2026 season.

Additions to the North End Zone, including the construction of premium seats and a complex, will reportedly increase Memorial Stadium’s capacity from 62,621 to 65,000. That increase would bump Mizzou up five spots nationally in total capacity.

Kansas City-based DLR Group will lead the construction and planning after being selected by the school in December 2023.

Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium (Memphis)

The University of Memphis announced major renovations for Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in March 2024. The three-phase renovation will cost $195M, with a total completion expected in time for the 2026 football season.

Phase I began after the 2023 season. It includes improving the East Side Suite Level Two to accommodate media and game day operations. Phase II is expected to begin “as soon after the 2024 academic calendar begins” as possible. This more dramatic phase includes a total revamp of the west side, including the press box and grandstands.

The most dramatic improvement is the introduction of a “Party Plaza” replacing a bulk of the premium stands under the press box. It would be the first of its kind in the FBS.

Phase III is not yet confirmed. According to the school, an additional $25M would be needed to expand locker rooms, upgrade the stadium “halo” (see blue ribbon lights above), and expand the north end zone tunnel so the venue can host major concerts.

Cotton Bowl Stadium

The Oklahoma Sooners’ Twitter account announced a contract extension to keep their annual Red River Shootout rivalry against Texas at the Cotton Bowl through 2036. Also announced in the presser was $140 million worth of renovations to Cotton Bowl Stadium.

The project is a “two-year renovation project that honors the Cotton Bowl Stadium’s celebrated legacy and distinctive architecture with sweeping enhancements…” Plans include widening concourses – a common problem with older stadiums – adding elevators, improved entrance/exodus, and more premium options.

The first phase includes revamping the west side of the stadium and is expected to be complete by the 2026 season. Phase two won’t be finished until 2034. That part includes “significant” renovations to the east side.

“The stadium renovations will be extensive, and we can’t wait for our fans to experience the enhancements,” commented OU Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione.

Nebraska Memorial Stadium (Nebraska)

The Lincoln Journal Star reported in October 2022 that Nebraska’s Memorial Stadium was in need of renovations. According to Nebraska Athletic Director Trev Alberts, the renovation project would be focused on modernizing and preserving the stadium for “the next 50 to 100 years of Memorial Stadium.”

In September 2023, plans for a $450 million renovation dropped. The south end zone of the stadium will be demolished and rebuilt, reportedly dropping the capacity from 90,000 to 75,000. Notably, the Huskers have sold out a record 396 consecutive games through the 2023 season at its current capacity.

A new 360º concourse will be installed on the ground level while a new 270º one is planned for the upper decks. The south end zone was scheduled torn down following the 2024 season, but a budget deficit has the project on hold.

Michie Stadium (Army)

Army announced a $145M “restoration” of Michie Stadium to be completed in time for the 2026 football season. In the renderings appear to be a revamped concourse, new luxury seating options, a brand-new 162K-foot athletic facility, and a complete rebuild of the East stands. The lower stretch of stands are reserved for cadets with a “central focus” on the cadets.

A new “Victory Plaza” is also planned for visitors outside of the stadium gates. Construction began in Spring 2024.

Ben Hill Griffin Stadium (Florida)

In July 2023, the University of Florida confirmed they began the process to select an architect to complete a $400M renovation to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. The Tampa Bay Times reported that UF was looking at companies that had worked on modernization projects like Fenway Park and Lambeau Field.

While no details or timeline are yet available, Florida plans to revamp “every phase of the fan experience.” UF is the next in a long line of major programs renovating historic stadiums in the ongoing college football facilities arms race.

In May 2024, renderings were released of possible designs for the renovation.

Valley Children’s Stadium (Fresno State)

  • Fresno State stadium Renovation
  • Fresno State stadium renovation

Fresno State revealed rendering for a $250M upgrade to their athletic facilities on May 9, 2023. Included is a re-imagining of Valley Children’s Stadium (formerly Bulldog Stadium), shown in the renderings. In 2018, Fresno State tried, and failed, to renovate the stadium, which is reportedly in serious need of an upgrade.

“It’s real,” said Fresno State athletic director Terry Tumey. “We are no longer in a hypothetical mode. We understand the external pressures that we have and the changing landscape of collegiate athletics [and] we do think that by showing investment by the university and by the community speaks volumes to the nation as to the importance of our athletics enterprise to what we do as a university.”

The project begins this summer with upgrades to suites on the east side of the stadium. The rest of the project has yet to be funded. Unfortunately, funding failed on a May 2024 ballot.

FBC Mortgage Stadium (UCF)

Seemingly in response to their move up to the Big 12, UCF announced plans for a “football campus.” The $90 million upgrade to the UCF campus includes a student-athlete complex, club seats, football offices, a practice field, and football “town square.” New renderings depict a lazy river on the campus of the student-athlete development center.

In March 2024, the UCF board of trustees approved an $88M plan to revamp the home side tower at FBC Mortgage Stadium.

Phase I of the three-phase plan includes the lazy river (named “recovery river”), tailgating space, and recruiting center. Phase II includes the club seats at FBC Mortgage Stadium and football offices. The final phase, Phase III, finishes the renovation with the new training facility.

Neyland Stadium (Tennessee)

Neyland Stadium– which had just finished installing a new scoreboard and some fan suites– announced more improvements in June. Included are adding V-O-L-S letters to the stadium deck, a premium club, improved stadium wi-fi, and more. You can find the full list of details here.

The added improvements also add $100M to the price tag of the total renovation. The total is now estimated to be $288M. The project won’t be completed until 2026.

Jerry Richardson Stadium (Charlotte)

The one of the smallest stadiums in the FBS plans to increase its 15,314-seating capacity. A project to revamp athletic facilities–including Jerry Richardson Stadium–broke ground on August 27, 2025.

An initial project cost over $100M and was slated to take 10-15 years. More reasonable renovations walked back the initial forecast (down from 30,000 capacity to 21,000). A 2025 update did not provide a completion date, but capacity isn’t expected to be impacted during the construction.

Sanford Stadium (Georgia)

Georgia is again renovating the south side of Sanford Stadium, which was given a huge facelift ahead of the 2017 season. This time, the plan to add more premium seating options to the tower and add ADA gates. Currently, there’s eight gates in the planned area, which will expand to 21.

Another purpose of the renovation is to expand the concourses – a much-needed improvement to the stadium. Currently, there is 10′ 6″ of clearance and that will be expanded to 23 feet.

The $68.5M renovation was approved in late May 2022. The second phase–focused on the new tower–was supposed to be completed in time for the 2024 season, but an Aug. 20, 2024 report said, “Construction has a long way to go.”
